Legal Cultures and Business Environments in Central Asia (CENTRAL ASIAN LAW – CAL) is a Horizon 2020 project funded under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE) programme. The project was implemented between 1 March 2020 and 29 February 2024 with a total budget of €1,104,000.
The project was coordinated by Lund University (Sweden) and brought together 17 institutions from Europe and Central Asia, including 9 beneficiary institutions and 8 partner organizations.Marmara University participated in the project as a Beneficiary Partner and served as the National Coordinator for Türkiye. With a total project share of €289,800, Marmara University played an active role in research activities, researcher exchanges, reporting, and coordination processes.
CAL aimed to examine the interaction between legal cultures, governance structures, and business environments in Central Asia and to assess how local business practices influence the European Union’s economic relations with the region. Through an interdisciplinary socio-legal approach, the project generated original empirical and theoretical insights into investment environments, business ethics, and rule of law dynamics.
Within the scope of the project, 28 researcher-months were carried out as outgoing secondments from Marmara University. 48 researcher-months were hosted at Marmara University as incoming secondments.
